Every year thousands of US youth soccer programs update their uniforms. The outdated uniforms become obsolete, even though they are usually still in great condition. Some people hang on to them as a memory, some donate them to random donation bins, some throw them away, some just collect at the bottom of an overstuffed drawer or the back of a busy closet.
Run It Back Sports works with US youth soccer clubs to give these uniforms another life. By collecting a club's outdated uniforms in mass, we are able to organize several matching team sets in a variety of age group/size collections.
As Returned Peace Corps Volunteers ourselves (El Salvador 1999-2004), we know that Peace Corps volunteers are the perfect intermediary to connect donated team uniforms with teams in need. Leveraging our connections with Peace Corps offices across Central and South America, we provide the uniforms and the volunteers provide the teams in need and the logistics. The results speak for themselves -- youth soccer teams that do not have resources to buy full team kits receive a set for each player that includes matching jersey, shorts and socks. They also receive other lightly used gear like shin guards, cleats, keeper kits and gloves, backpacks, etc. Uniforms strengthen the sense of team and give the players a feeling of pride in their communities, giving back to what makes the sport so special.
